Expert Guidance in Public Health Research & Policy

Jane Philpott, MD, MPH is a Canadian physician, professor, and public health professional with a career spanning family medicine, global health, medical education, and health policy. She earned her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Western Ontario, completed family medicine residency at the University of Ottawa, and pursued tropical medicine training and a Master of Public Health at the University of Toronto.

Philpott practiced family medicine for more than three decades, including extensive clinical and community health work in Niger, West Africa, where she also contributed to training community health workers. She later worked in medical education and family medicine at the University of Toronto and served as Chief of Family Medicine at Markham Stouffville Hospital.

At Queen’s University, she served as Professor of Family Medicine, Dean of Queen’s Health Sciences, and Director of the School of Medicine. She completed her term as Dean in June 2025 and subsequently focused on primary healthcare policy and health-system work.

Since December 2024, Philpott has served as Chair of Ontario’s Primary Care Action Team, which is working on expanding access to primary care across Ontario.

Her professional interests include primary healthcare, public health, global health, health systems, medical education, and health equity. Her background combines clinical practice, academic leadership, international health work, and healthcare policy.
